On April 16th 2018 we played the Spring Tournament at the golf course Rijk van Nunspeet in Nunspeet, the Netherlands.
Before the tournament started we had our traditional Annual Member’s Meeting. Ben Ruijs as chairman and Ilja Borgart as competition leader signed off and Ylse van der Schoot became the new DGFR chairman and Rob Boon the new competition leader.
At last we had spring weather after winter and many players wore polo shirts on the golf course. The golf course was perfect, but for most of the 71 players it was not a simple job: you have to hit straight to stay out of the trees. Nunspeet does have a big advantage, because you can almost always find your ball. The greens were fast and the slopes not easy to see, so many puts ended up just next to the hole. Yet there was a total of 10 birdies, which were rewarded with a golf ball.
At dinner we had two guests of honor: Ido Bergsma, the first chairman and founder of the DGFR, and his wife. Ido has indicated last year that he can not participate competently and therefore no longer registers for DGFR matches, but he is the donor of the Ido Bergsmaschaal for the best Rotarian during the Spring Contest. After the starter he was able to present this bowl to the striking winner with 40 stableford points, Ylse van der Schoot, the brand-new chairman of our beautiful fellowship. She made a fantastic score when you consider that the average score was 25 stableford points. After that, Ido provided a highlight of the evening sharing beautiful memories and facts about the founding and the first years of the DGFR. Francine Kruyt, Board member of IGFR, presented a bottle of wine on behalf of IGFR for the resigning president Ben Ruijs as a gesture of thanks. The other prize winners received their prizes from the competition management. The dinner was full of fellowship and a nice conclusion to a wonderful golf day.
