Gavin Reekie


Gavin Reekie was a strong advocate of Rotary International and all it stood for. He became a member of the Rotary Club of Cupar near St. Andrews in 1950, becoming President in 1958/59 and District Governor of D-1010 in 1963/64.

In 1956 he was a member of the first Scottish Rotary Curling team to visit Canada. In 1963 he initiated and was a Founder-Member of the International Golfing Fellowship of Rotarians (IGFR) to foster a better understanding of the principals of Rotary through golf in different countries around the world. He hosted the first IGFR meeting in St. Andrews.


Gavin passed away in his sleep on the 8th of March 2011 in his home at Pitlar near Cupar where he has stayed for the past few years. Gavin would have celebrated his 96th birthday on 3rd of April this year.
